Somewhere, in the early 80’s, my dad observed my mom working on her colored pencil drawings. She would draw animals, people, family members, and just about anything else in life-like detail. Seeing this creation was a wonderful sight. However...
Seeing the difficulty during her creative process, was way too much for my dad. (She would search through two old diaper wipe boxes for a particular color.) He put his problem solving brain to work and came up with a solution. He headed down to his wood shop in the basement and started to create. That initiative, is what turned into the colored pencil holder we make today.
There were many trial and error designs. Often, you don’t see the perfect solution the first time you look at a problem. Our first design was a two-tier design that would fall over at any touch. So, we decided to put lead in bottom. It was heavy, and didn’t fall over as much, but not quite right. Next, we added a third tier and it worked! After a few more modifications, we developed an attractive holder with a solid base, that beautifully displays colored pencils. The possibilities to create are endless.
At home, it was great to see what my mom could do with the new holder. Her projects were getting done faster and were much easier for her. She says that her creativity flowed and did not feel as stifled- constantly searching for pencils. She also liked having the ability to compare similar colors instantly, to choose the one that was just right.
Today, we offer many different designs of our holders. Our vision, is to accommodate all artists in their creative endeavors. Artists are all different and we know that, so our holders reflect that ideal as well. We strive to create a logical solution to every artist’s organizational woes; a lofty goal that, one day, we can hopefully meet.
